So when they finally left,
they were mocked;
given a sarcastic order;
and beneath it—
a curse,
a longing delayed by death.
Still, in the end—
they got away.
Though it didn’t seem so,
in the end,
they were the ones lost.
They were the ones
who lost out.
But—
was victory
what they were after?
