are lamp posts
less attractive.
They break the trail
of the horizon,
just slightly above
the tiled rooftops.
They dishonor the sky
for remaining in the spotlight
when what matters most
is the day sky.
And only then, at night,
in the absence of light,
do they glow, spark,
and catch everyone’s attention.
Oh, poor souls,
may you all
be forgiven
for your cruel folly.
