He was never as faithful
as he preached to others.
It was silence and peace
that he desired most,
and when the echoes
mocked his pleasure,
he went on telling others
what he himself could hardly believe.
He was not as faithful as he claimed—
and yet faith still used him
to help others.
One should never forget:
the cross was not always
a thing of holiness.
