Everyone kept talking of the journey —
the many destinations to elsewhere,
the treasures at the rainbow’s end,
and the treasures we could
or could not keep along the way.
But what of
our once safe spaces,
the comfort zones
we’re told we must one day leave?
These havens sheltered us,
gave us rest when needed,
and witnessed us grow
from somebody to someone.
They hold the quiet records
of who we truly are.
It isn’t fair
that only the journey
gets celebrated.
Only a few speak of
the place we all
are meant to return to,
and fewer still speak
of the road leading back
to the place we call home.
