Random Leaf #1590

"What happens to the hero when he's no longer needed?"

"He either have died as a hero. Or, by the order of the king, lived on as cage animal or died by execution."

"What?"

"Once his purpose is served what more is left for him? He trained all his life for one goal, to be a hero. Nothing more."

"Isn't he supposed to marry the princess like in the fairytales?"

"Princesses are married off to princes or to some fine lesser nobles. The hero never had that birthright. He is commoner. No noble, much more royalties, would want their children to be married to someone of lower class."

"He'll be given a title. That's how stories go."

"A title, yes. But it is still not a birthright. But enough of the hero's origin. The hero is expected to die for the cause and mission he is given. Nothing more."

"If he lives on?"

"Outside the title of a hero, he is a weapon, a living weapon, a monstrosity. With all the trainings he had to undergo and the many treatments to literally reform his very constitution, he cannot be called an ordinary person anymore."

"So how can he liv-"

"In some cases, the hero will either be given a heavy restriction so he can no longer use the power he has or he will be chained, locked up and imprisoned for the rest-"

"No!"

"As for the last option. If still the hero manages to survive all that or even try to escape from his doomed destiny, he will be executed."

"Why? Isn't he the hero?"

"People fear beasts and monsters. That is the truth. That is why we put up fences to surround our homes, cages and shackles to tame them. And if they're proved to be impossible to be.. chained.. domesticated, the only way to deal with them is execution. The hero will be killed."

"Is there no other-"

"That is the sole faith of the hero. It isn't a happy ever after as the children's tales, we're all taught of."
