In the deepest part of hell, there are no chains—only the cold and an angel who weeps. His memories of grandeur and joyful moments are kept elsewhere. He is bound to a duty akin to that of the titan Atlas, but this angel exerts no force except his will. He does not carry the world in its entirety, only all its sorrow and misery. He is bound to bear them all.
But there are others there—sinners who have already been forgiven, yet chose to stay. They, too, wish to share the sorrow. Who else but those already forgiven possess the humanity to pray for the one sinner who needed it most?
In truth, he had already been forgiven long ago. But for reasons known only to himself, he chose eternal punishment.
